Baseball in Michigan CityAmes FieldAmes Field hosted the Michigan City White Caps in the late 1950s. This is not the current Ames Field football stadium in Michigan City; the original Ames Field, a multipurpose sports facility, was demolished in 1995 to make room for the new stadium. The earlier Ames Field was apparently constructed by the Michigan City Rotary Club. Source of Name: Named for druggist George Ames, pioneer mayor of Michigan City, who passed away in 1890. |
