MWL Fan's Guide

Midwest League 1996

Team Profiles

Joel's Lugnut Summer

I had season tickets for Lansing's inaugural season. These pages are a remnant of my effort to document that summer.

Because these pages had a different audience than the rest of the MWLguide site, the tone's a little different.

Notes on the teams in the Midwest League

These essays were written as previews over the course of the summer; they are dated and were current on those dates. I was trying, with mixed success, to give some sense of the makeup of each team while the Lugnuts played them. These were honest efforts to describe the opposing team, but there are certainly mistakes, and misinterpretations, and misjudgments.

These notes were revised, sometimes extensively, every time our guys faced each opponent. Each version here dates from the last series between the team being described and the Lugnuts.

Because these were written on specific dates, they may or may not reflect some team at either its typical or its best. Please take that into account as you read. Thanks.

Except for reformatting, and fixing occasional spelling and punctuation errors, the pages are unchanged from the date shown for "Major Change".

The Midwest League plays Single-A, professional baseball in America's agricultural and industrial heartland. 14 teams play a 140 game schedule which begins in early April and ends Labor Day weekend.
