Midwest League 2003All-Star GameEast 5, West 4West Michigan, June 17, 2003The 2003 Midwest League All-Star Game was played at West Michigan's Fifth Third Ballark on June 17, 2003. The Eastern teams won by a 5-4 score. Lansing's Kevin Beaver knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Beaver was the game's SportsTicker Star of Stars; he went 3 for 3 as well as knocking the the game winner. Fort Wayne's Dale Thayer was the winning pitcher. Team members were nominated by a poll of the League's managers and coaches taken during late May, with final selections made by MWL president George Spelius. For the purposes of this game, Quad City is an Eastern Division team. Gary Jones and the Fort Wayne staff coached the East; Webster Garrison and the Kane County staff coached the West. These managers coached their teams to the first-half pennants in their divisions. You may wish to compare these teams with the Best Players list I selected in late May. |
