Mid-July Profile

Cedar Rapids' team's been hurt by callups for their two strongest pitchers. Before the roster changes, the team featured excellent pitching, and an adequate but unexceptional offense. Although they're not especially error-prone, they've permitted lots of unearned runs, which has hurt the team's won/lost record.

SS Henry Statia's the best hitter remaining on the team; no power, but good skills and good speed. OF Jordan Renz has come to earth; he's a good power source, but otherwise his numbers are weak. There's some speed in this lineup: Brad Coon's the MWL's best thief, and Statia, C Flint Wipke, and 3B Dallas Morris are quick (and reckless).

The pitching's still strong. With Steve Marek and Nick Adenhart gone to tougher competition, the rotation's now fronted by Thomas Mendoza, who is a fine pitcher. Robert Mosebach's also done well in the rotation. Closer Richard Aldridge is putting up a strong season; no one else in the bullpen's yet shown that he can be depended upon, though Robert Romero looks promising.

May Profile

The Kernels have scored 221 runs while permitting 213; they've probably lost a few games they should have won. The pitching staff features two of the league's strongest starters, and the hitters also feature a pair of excellent performances. There's little depth, though.

Outfielders Jordan Renz and Pat Reilly are having very strong seasons; Renz is posting MVP-caliber numbers, though Reilly's the better talent. Third baseman Travis Schlichting is also performing well.

Nick Adenhart just might be the MWL's best pitcher, so far; Stephen Marek's been nearly as good. Closer Richard Aldridge's stats are a mystery; he's got 10 saves, but isn't pitching well. Daniel Hawkins and Robert Romero show promise from the 'pen.

April Profile

The Kernels were pretty much a league-average team in April, which is reflected in their 12/12 won/lost record. As a team, there's nothing really remarkable to note; they're a bit weak in the power department, but generally unexceptional. This team could suddenly get hot, but more likely they're destined to play .500 ball all summer.

The starting rotation is solid, though none seem overpowering. Nominal closer Richard Aldridge hasn't done well, though setup men Brok Butcher and Tim Didjurgis have been throwing really well.

Outfielder Patrick Reilly's begun putting together a really fine season. OF Brad Coon has a leadoff hitter's skills, except he doesn't get enough hits. Catcher Flint Wipke has generally solid numbers and has shown some power; if he puts the pieces together I suspect he could be the key to the CR season.
